Arthur Schlesinger, Jr.

In scholarly circles, 88-year-old Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. has been a distinguished contributor to American history since, at the age of 20, he wrote his first critically-acclaimed book. To the mainstream public, Schlesinger may best be known as special advisor to the late President Kennedy, the role that inspired him to write A Thousand Days: John F. Kennedy in the White House. Indeed, Schlesinger has been criticized by traditional historians for weaving his own political views into historical texts.
The two-time Pulitzer Prize winner has written 18 books and countless essays on liberal theory. He is one of America’s most influential historians, as well as a champion of Democratic and liberal policies. “I have always felt that, from the point of view of the historian, participation in events — although it generates problems — also bestows benefits,” Schlesinger once said in an interview with Contemporary Authors.
